FG IV – Project Manager, Scientific Research – Development of Soil Organic Carbon Indicators

This position focuses on the development of indicators of soil organic carbon combining the current LUCAS soil monitoring system data in the European Union with advanced modelling applications. The candidate will develop soil organic carbon indicators to support the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the relevance of soil carbon for climate change. The indicators will be available to policy makers, users and stakeholders over the indicator dashboard of the EU Soil Observatory. Specifically, the position will provide the regular reporting at EU scale of soil organic carbon as a key element of the indicator system of the EU Soil Observatory. The activity will be closely coordinated with the relevant Commission services (DG ENV, DG AGRI, DG CLIMA, ESTAT) and international organizations and initiatives like the Global Soil Partnership, the UNFCCC, UNCCD and the 4pour1000 initiative. INDICATIVE CONTRACT’S DURATION for each position:
36 months initial contract with possible renewals up to maximum 6 years
